Short Bio

What do you get when you cross a Northern Minnesotan boy, 6 years of military experience, 2,000+ comics and a Youth Ministry degree?

Give up yet?

You get 100% pure Jamo.

JAMO (jaw-mow)
Proper Noun
1. Slang for "James Moberg". A naming game combines the first consonants and vowels of the first and last name and forms a 'new' name.
2. Not to be confused with Jamo & Associates or with Jamo THX Speakers.

Northern Minnesotan Boy

Born in Virginia, MN and raised in Hibbing, MN. The firstborn of six children (of which, all but 2 entered the military). I decided to leave the one-ATM-town behind and join the U.S. Army, become a Chaplain Assistant and go to Europe. (My 3 brothers joined the Air Force.)

6 Years of Military Service

Well... that's the last time I'll ever volunteer for anything. (Just Kidding) The service was good to me. It was in the military that I regained a serious interest in computers and found out how many comics my monthly paycheck would purchase. (Well, at least it was better than buying beer.)

I was stationed as a Chaplain Assistant at the following military posts:

  • 1988: Fort Dix, NJ - Basic Training [Partially closed, right?]
  • 1989: Fort Monmouth, NJ - U.S. Army Chaplain Center & School (USACHCS) [Relocated]
  • 1989: Schwaebisch Gmuend (near Stuttgart), (West) Germany - 38th Signal Battalion, 56th Field Artillery Command (Pershing) [Closed]
  • 1991: Fort Ord, CA. (near Monterey) - 3/27 Light Infantry Battalion - 2nd Brigade [Closed]
  • 1992-94: Army Reserves [2 units I drilled with are both closed]

I'm looking for the following soldiers:

  • SPC Freddy 'the Snake' Tucker (38th Signal Battalion, Germany)
  • SPC Michael J. Bacon (38th Signal Battalion)
  • SPC Michael Galvan (USACHCS)
  • SPC Myles A. Calvin (USACHCS) A Canadian
2,000+ Comics

2,000+! I lost count there for a while and then I got smart and entered all the information into an database. I enjoy X-Men, Christ Claremont, early Valiant, early Spawn, W.I.L.D. Cats, Ghost, Gen13 and The Tick (animated). I haven't collected in some time, but would love to start again if I can find both the time and money. (Man! Comics are expensive these days!) I previously wrote a Comic Book Collection program using Lotus Approach and was in the process of porting it to a web application, but have been too busy to pursue it.

1 Californian Wife

Lisa is her name. I met her on Christmas eve in 1991, asked her to marry me on Febuary 14, 1992, and was happily married in Reno on May 16, 1992. I wooed her with my piano playing and a bouquet of roses. (Hint: Roses really do work!)

She has played volleyball for the Volleyball Institute of Minnesota and was employed at the Mall of America for about 3 years. She traded in her retail job for a data entry position where she can actually get holidays and weekends off from work. Weird... for some reason she wants to go back to California because it's c-o-l-d in Minnesota. :)

ok, ok... so i kept my promise and we moved back to California, but it wasn't until after she gave birth to Austin James Moberg on January 19, 1999. We moved to Monterey, CA and have been enjoying snowless winters since April 1999. She now works fulltime for the Pebble Beach Company as a Reservationist.

A Youth Ministry Degree

It's been my aspiration to become a Youth Minister since 1984. In desperation and under the influence of drugs, I failed to take my own life one night and I personally decided that if God was truly REAL and could use a vegetable like myself, he could be my guest. I had failed to do anything right on my own and was willing to terminate my own life. I figured 'what could I lose if I had nothing to lose and everything to gain?' I prayed. I asked Jesus Christ to enter my empty life and He filled it entirely.

I felt a VERY direct call shortly after my conversion to minister to youth. I got involved in Youth for Christ, my church's youth group, sunday school, pastor's class, a Christian prayer meeting held in public school by students, and counseling at camps. God then called me to enter the military as a Chaplain Assistant (argh!), I obeyed. Providentially, the head Chaplains at both installations were from my denomination and gave me much needed support. (Military life is very demanding and I've seen many Christians get overwhelmed and defeated spiritually.)

I've completed my Youth Pastoral degree at Crown College, a Christian & Missionary Alliance school located in St. Bonifacius, MN.

I've been involved in the following organizations while in college:

  • Faith Village Council, Mayor
  • Shield Editor (College Yearbook)
  • Lance Layout Editor (College Newspaper)
  • Student Senate
  • Armed Forces Prayer Band, President
  • Missionary Cabinet, Corresponding Secretary
  • Minnesota Sunday School Conference 1994 & 1995, attendee
  • Big Sandy Camp Sno Daze Jr. High Retreat, Counselor
  • Youth volunteer: Grace Church of Edina & Christ Community Church - Chanhassen
  • Sunday School Teacher: Sr. High - Waconia Alliance & Jr. High - Waconia, Alliance
  • Tree House volunteer- Chaska, MN

I am currently the Director & Developer behind YouthPastor.com, a FREE online resource for Youth Pastors. I'm also a partner at SunStar Media and serve as the Web Application Developer.
